An important characteristic of the city of Hagen are the 200 bridges, conditioned by the four rivers and its location in a valley. Many of these bridges were built in the 60's and 70's, a time where the structural change in the whole region of Westfalen and Ruhrgebiet began. The unexpected amount of trucks and the usage of inferior steel led to the situation that 30 bridges are ailing. Some of these monumental constructions can break down instantly without any visual evidence, consequently this would isolate locations from the main roads or degenerates the central railway station to a dead-end station. The cityscape will change unavoidably; the municipality doesn’t have the financial resources to reconstruct all ailing bridges. The work is a current record of a changing landscape of Hagen.
